The Promises of God
Who are you? When someone asks you this question, your most typical response is to give your name. Maybe you’ll even share your age, where you live, where you work, and something about your family - depending on how comfortable you feel in that moment. We typically identify ourselves by everything that’s written on our drivers’ licenses or that people can find out about us on the internet. While these things about you are very important, they are only surface-level when it comes to our true identity. Scripture says that God made humans in the Image of God or “imago dei”. This is our foundational identity as a people. Our identity is radically altered by the reality that sin has changed the landscape of who we are and how we operate, and only God can erase the effects and power of sin. Unfortunately, one of Satan’s greatest deceptions is to get us to either forget this truth or to ignore it completely. Over the next six weeks, you will learn how to live in the true identity that is given to us by God. Living into the Imago Dei truth means much more than having strong self-esteem or self-worth. Those things are inconsistent (and sometimes non-existent) in our lives, and we can’t count on them to be the main source of our identity. The power of sin may be dominant within us from birth, but Christ's power can change that. In fact, He is the ONLY thing that can change that.
